Position Overview

BSR works with business and stakeholders to design, implement, and scale collaborative initiatives that create shared solutions to global challenges. Today, we support more than 20 collaborations that bring together more than 300 companies spanning multiple sectors and geographies. The collaborations aim to strengthen company performance, improve markets and industries, and contribute to systemic change for a more just and sustainable world.

Our 2020 strategy identifies collaboration as one of three priorities, with overall objectives focused on improving ideation and design of new collaborations and strengthening operational excellence. In particular, the strategy envisions that BSR will seek to develop new, “game-changing” collaborations that take on significant global challenges that require shared solutions.

The Manager is a member of the global BSR Collaboration Team that leads and supports the design, implementation, and scaling of our collaborative initiatives. In addition, the Collaboration Team leads on publishing thought leadership in business collaboration for sustainable development.

This new position has been created to further implement the collaboration pillar of our 2020 strategy, with a particular focus on developing new, large-scale collaborations. The Manager will plan and execute ideation and design processes that engage internal and external stakeholders as well as research on particular sustainability challenges. The Manager will work closely with other members of the Collaboration Team as well as subject matter experts in our various expertise areas, including our Sustainable Futures Lab.


  • Evolve BSR methodology and approach to ideation and design of collaborations, including through internal and external offline and online engagement and research.
  • Develop BSR SharePoint Online collaboration capabilities.
  • Partner with BSR areas of expertise practices (Climate Change, Human Rights, Inclusive Economy, Supply Chain, Sustainability Management, and Women’s Empowerment) and BSR industry leaders in support of ideating and designing new collaborations and scaling existing ones.
  • Support design and positioning of a new, upcoming collaboration incubator, including branding and marketing.
  • Develop and execute a funding strategy for the new collaboration incubator, working with the Collaboration and Grants Teams.
  • Perform project management and implementation responsibilities on one or more collaborative initiatives in the BSR portfolio.
  • Develop capabilities for BSR’s knowledge management system for collaborations.


  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in an analytical or strategic function with a company, nonprofit, or global organization.
  • Work experience in a global environment; experience working and living in other countries is a significant plus.
  • Experience engaging with public-private partnerships (or multicompany collaborations), including with public sector, civil society, and business in pursuit of business and societal outcomes.
  • Master’s degree in business administration or social or natural sciences.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to absorb new knowledge quickly.
  • Independent thinker, self-starter, and entrepreneurial.
  • Experience administering multicompany/multistakeholder initiatives is a plus.
  • Strong facilitation and people skills, including a demonstrated ability to work with other team members to achieve objectives.
  • Excellent English-language written and verbal communication and editing skills.
  • Strong/fluent skills in a second language are an advantage.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Capacity to work and thrive in a growing, fast-paced entrepreneurial organization with a collaborative environment.
